I recommend the Panasonic 5x DVD-RAM disk LM-AD240ME In one store, I managed to get them to sell me these disks for the recommended price by showing them a printout from the Panasonic website.Ĭomments posted by Peter Walker from Germany, November 03, 2007. Also, shop around for good DVD-RAM prices as they are often sold above the recommended retail price. Therefore, I do recommend formatting new DVD-RAM disks before putting important data on them. After reformatting them with this drive, the problem disappeared. I did have a couple of DVD-RAM cartridges which were unreliable. The DVD-RAM disks written with this drive work perfectly with Panasonic DVD-Recorders (at least with my Panasonic DMR-EH675 anyway), unlike drives which use In-CD (in my personal experience). A bit unusual the first time you use it, but you soon forget about it - no problem. The tray has little plactic holders for normal CD/DVDs which are pushed down when a cartridge is inserted. The drive came without instructions and software, and you do need to install the Panasonic driver for DVD-RAM support which is hard to find: Panasonic driver should be used, not In-CD, etc. Additionally you can simply insert the DVD-RAM and use it like a hard disk. DVD-RAMs do not deteriorate with age like the DVD-R formats and are reliable. I use these disks for archiving after finding too many DVD-/+R disks being unreadable after some time. DVD-RAM cartridges are very reliable disks and due to the cartridge, are very well protected from scratches, etc. This is an ideal drive for those few people who realise just who useful DVD-RAM cartridges are.

In general, this drive works very well and has accepted all the media I tried in it and so far, no coasters. This is the successor of the Panasonic SW-9574 and the only DVD writer available that takes DVD-RAM cartridges as well as all the normal disk formats.
